Dorcas Sewing

Dorcas, the Bible’s seamstress(?)…  did sew according to Acts 9 for those in need.   We try to model her example by sewing the cloth coverings of quilts, not garments.

The current emphasis is upon smaller quilts, i.e., prayer quilts for those who cannot be out and about as much as they would like.  As we coordinate with the school year, we begin again in September to bring our sewing machines to church, use the donated fabric, and hopefully create something lovely and desirable.  We have sorted our bins by colors and are finishing up “ufo’s” (unfinished objects) this month.   Next sewing date:  Sept. 22.  There is something to sew even if you don’t have a ufo!!

The plan for remaining three months of 2017 is to meet on the first and third Fridays of each month, 10 am to 3 pm.  We are considering the October start with each gal using same pattern, but different fabrics and then variations in the layout.    It will be a surprise to see the incredible differences!

Skill levels vary!   First comes the desire to spend time knowing friends, challenging oneself to learn – especially using rotary cutters, sewing ¼” seams, frequent pressing…  It is a continual learning for everyone.  Do consider coming, observing, taking part!   More info:  call the church office.
